Cotton planting line covering soil delay technology to fill the technical gap in Xinjiang

It is estimated that the application area will exceed 10 million mu this year

The reporter learned from the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences: from 2019 to 2021, the cumulative extension and application area of cotton planting line covering and delaying technology exceeded 20 million mu, and the cumulative income of cotton farmers and enterprises increased by nearly 3 billion yuan. In 2022, the technology will continue to be popularized in large areas in the cotton region of Northern Xinjiang, and the southern Xinjiang is in the stage of multi-point test and demonstration. It is expected that the area of popularization and application this year will exceed 10million mu.

The technology was jointly developed by Tian Liwen, a researcher of the economic crop Research Institute of Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, together with 8 universities, scientific research institutes and enterprises inside and outside Xinjiang, which filled the gap of agricultural rain prevention technology in Xinjiang, and was another major breakthrough in cotton planting technology with high yield, high quality and high efficiency.

Compared with the traditional sowing method, the planting line covering soil delay technology has broken the conventional sowing method of "drilling, planting, covering soil, and suppressing", and changed to the method of "drilling, planting and pressing", and then "covering soil" after emergence, and appropriately increasing the sowing depth. Combined with other seedling protection techniques such as "dry sowing and wet out" and precision sowing, the seedling protection rate of this technology was increased by more than 25.3% and stabilized at about 85% compared with conventional rain damaged cotton fields.

In recent years, the rainfall in Xinjiang has increased significantly, especially in the northern Xinjiang. The rain disaster usually causes the surface soil of cotton field to harden, so many cotton seedlings are "stewed" under the hard shell and can't break the soil to sprout. Compared with the demonstration field, the average seedling rate is about 35%. In order to recover the losses, cotton farmers usually take the method of breaking the soil shell manually or mechanically after rain. When the disaster is serious, it is necessary to replant or replant other crops, which not only increases the cost of cotton planting, but also delays the agricultural time.

Tian Liwen said that the technology can change the covering soil of planting line into covering soil after emergence, which can change passive disaster to active disaster prevention, effectively solve the problem of low emergence rate caused by rain disaster in cotton seedling stage, and open up a new way of agricultural rain prevention technology in cotton production.
