Oeko tex has updated its testing standards, limits and requirements for the scope of its certification and labeling, including new regulations on sustainability and hazardous materials.

Georg dieners, general secretary of the association, said Oeko tex aims to provide customers and partners with the best service and certification. Therefore, the test standards of Oeko tex standards are updated at least once a year according to new scientific information or regulations. In 2021, a special project will integrate the carbon and water footprint into our green manufacturing label.

With the increasing demand for clothing and textile products made from recycled materials, Oeko tex introduced a method to integrate recycled materials to improve sustainability as part of Oeko tex Standard 100. This method consistently requires a minimum percentage of recycled materials in the article, using different test procedures based on the source of the material and the necessary resume information. The information about circular economy will be disclosed and informed to consumers by hanging tag.

The company said certification of recycled materials is difficult due to the different challenges faced by recycled materials compared to unused materials due to their service life. Oeko tex treats them differently in STANDARD100 and is specifically mentioned within the scope of the certificate.

In the future, its partner agencies will also certify chrome free and heavy metal free tanned leather as part of the Oeko tex leather standard. These natural products will be tested with different residual metal values and are specifically mentioned in the scope of the certificate.

With the increasing demand for certification, Oeko tex said that through the sustainable labeling of green made textiles and leather products, it has once again become the fastest growing product sales. Compared with the previous year, the number of valid certification labels increased from 1093 to 4010, an increase of 267%.
