The latest statistics of Guangzhou Customs show that the overall export of Guangdong shoes has dropped sharply in the first quarter of 2008, but exports to the EU have increased significantly.

Traders warned that while the export growth of the EU increased significantly, the export unit price continued to fall, and the average export price of private enterprises and individual industrial and commercial households was still far below the average price.

Guangzhou customs statistics show that in the first quarter of 2008, Guangdong exported 750 million pairs of shoes, a decrease of 20.1% compared to the same period in 2007. The value was 2 billion 320 million dollars, an increase of 5.4%, of which 120 million pairs of shoes exported to the EU increased 34.4%, and the value was 370 million dollars, an increase of 22.8%, but the average price was 3.1 dollars / double, down 8.7%.

It is worrying that the average unit price of shoes exported in Guangdong is on the decline.

In January, the average unit price was 3.2 US dollars / double, down 12.6%; in February, the average unit price was 3 US dollars / double, down 8.9%; in March, the average price was 3 US dollars / double, down 3.5%.

The average export price of private enterprises and individual industrial and commercial households is far lower than the average price.

In the first quarter, the average export price of private enterprises was only 1.68 US dollars / double, less than 60% of the total average price, and the average export price of individual industrial and commercial households was 0.35 US dollars / double, less than 1/5 of the total average price.

Compared with the same period in 2007, the average export price of private enterprises and individual industrial and commercial households decreased by 15% and 48% respectively.

The industry pointed out that since 2006, the EU anti-dumping on some footwear exported to China has made this part of footwear exports continue to decline.

In the first quarter, antidumping shoes exported only 13 million 780 thousand pairs of exports to the EU, down by 16.3%; however, those who did not suffer anti-dumping duties reached 110 million pairs of exports to the EU, a sharp increase of 45.8%, and the price was only 2.5 dollars / double, down 15%. This situation is very easy to become the fuse for the EU to initiate new anti-dumping proceedings against China's exports.

It also means that the average export price of private enterprises is 1.68 US dollars / double, and the average export price of individual industrial and commercial households is only 0.35 US dollars / double.

The two types of enterprises export 66 million 590 thousand pairs of shoes, accounting for 55% of the total exports, but the value only accounts for 28.9% of the total export value.

Because of its low grade, competition can only be done at low prices, and the result of further competition will further suppress its profit margins and lead to anti-dumping proceedings by the European Union.
