US Vietnam Antidumping

The US Department of Commerce announced that the United States conducted the last examination of garments imported from Vietnam. The result shows that there is no sufficient evidence to support its self initiated anti-dumping investigations.

Spooner, assistant director of import and export management of the US Department of Commerce, said that the price of Vietnamese clothing is consistent with other major suppliers including Central America, and even higher in many categories.

The US Department of Commerce reviewed the import data of five categories of apparel products, including trousers, shirts, underwear, swimsuits and sweaters, from February 2008 to June.

During the survey period, 208 of the nearly ten customs tariff codes under the five categories of commodities did not import records, and some unit prices increased, indicating that there was no dumping occurred in the 500 categories.

Us business has also been compared with other supply countries and regions of similar commodities from unit price and import level, including Bangladesh, Central America, Dominica free trade agreement countries, Kampuchea, India, Indonesia, Macao, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines and Thailand.

The results also show that the evidence of self initiated anti-dumping investigations is insufficient.

The US monitoring mechanism for Vietnamese clothing will expire at the end of the term of the Bush administration in January 20, 2009.
